Dry needling in Zagreb
A thin needle into the taut band of a muscle, reaching tension that hands cannot get to.
In short
A session costs 45 EUR, performed by a licensed physiotherapist at Prisavlje 12, Zagreb. No referral needed. Full list on the pricing page.
How it works
A fine, solid needle is placed into a trigger point: the tight, tender band inside a muscle that refers pain elsewhere. The muscle often twitches once and then lets go. Nothing is injected, which is why it is called dry.
It is used when a muscle stays tight despite manual work, or when the trigger point is deep enough that pressure through the surface cannot reach it.
What it feels like
The needle itself is barely felt. The twitch response is a brief, deep cramp that fades within seconds. Afterwards the area often feels like it has been worked hard, similar to delayed muscle soreness, for a day or two.
Bruising is possible and harmless. Tell the physiotherapist if you are on blood thinners.
Booked on its own or as part of therapy
Dry needling can be booked as a standalone session. When it is part of a physical therapy plan it is included in the physical therapy price rather than billed on top.
Frequently asked questions
- Is dry needling the same as acupuncture?
- The needle is similar, the reasoning is not. Dry needling targets a specific muscle trigger point identified by physical examination. Acupuncture follows a different framework entirely.
- Does it hurt?
- The insertion is barely noticeable. The twitch response is a brief deep cramp lasting a second or two. Most people describe the aftermath as muscle soreness rather than pain.
- How many sessions do I need?
- Often two to four for a specific trigger point. If a muscle keeps producing trigger points, the reason is usually load or weakness somewhere else, and that becomes the focus instead of more needling.
- Can I train afterwards?
- Light activity is fine. Leave heavy or maximal work for 24 to 48 hours, because the treated muscle is temporarily sore and will not test true.
