Interferential current therapy in Zagreb
Two medium-frequency currents crossing under the skin, reaching deeper than standard TENS with less surface discomfort.
In short
This is delivered inside a physical therapy session, which costs 70 EUR and lasts 45 to 60 minutes including the assessment. Full list on the pricing page.
Why it goes deeper
Skin resists low-frequency current, which is what limits how deep standard TENS can comfortably reach. Interferential therapy sends in two medium-frequency currents that pass the skin easily and interfere with each other at depth, producing a low-frequency effect where it is actually wanted.
In practice that means it suits deeper structures, most often the lumbar spine, hips and knees, and is more comfortable at the skin than TENS at equivalent depth.
How it is used
Four electrodes are placed so the currents cross over the target area, for fifteen to twenty minutes, inside a physical therapy session. The point is to reduce pain enough that the active part of the session is productive.
Frequently asked questions
- How is it different from TENS?
- Depth and comfort. TENS works well for superficial and localised pain; interferential reaches deeper structures with less sensation at the skin.
- Does it hurt?
- No. It is a deep tingling or pulsing sensation, set to be noticeable but comfortable.
- How many sessions?
- It is used within physical therapy sessions rather than as a separate course. If pain is not changing, the plan gets reviewed rather than the sessions repeated.
- Who should not have it?
- The same restrictions as other electrotherapy: pacemakers and implanted electronic devices, pregnancy over the trunk, the front of the neck, broken skin, and areas with impaired sensation.
