Pregnancy massage in Zagreb
Side-lying, adapted to the trimester, for the lower back and hips that carry the load and the legs that swell.
How the session is adapted
You lie on your side with pillows supporting the bump, the upper leg and the head. Lying face down is not used, and lying flat on the back is avoided from the second trimester because it compresses a major vein.
Pressure is moderate. Deep work over the lower back and abdomen is not appropriate, and certain points around the ankle and hand are avoided as a precaution.
What it helps with
Lower back and pelvic discomfort as the load shifts forward. Hip and glute tension from a changing gait. Swelling and heaviness in the legs, where light lymphatic-style work helps more than pressure. Upper back and neck tension later on, and after the birth from feeding positions.
Before you book
Tell us your trimester and any complications: high blood pressure, pre-eclampsia, a history of preterm labour, placenta praevia or reduced fetal movement. Some of those mean we ask you to clear it with your midwife or obstetrician first, and that is the right order.
This service is not on the standard price list. Call us for the current price rather than assuming it from another massage.
Frequently asked questions
- From which week can I have a pregnancy massage?
- Most clinics, ours included, treat from the second trimester onward for routine discomfort. In the first trimester we ask that you check with your midwife or doctor first.
- What position will I be in?
- On your side, supported with pillows. Never face down, and not flat on your back from the second trimester.
- Can massage bring on labour?
- A standard pregnancy massage does not induce labour. We avoid the points traditionally claimed to do so as a precaution, not because the evidence is strong either way.
- Is it safe with swelling in my legs?
- Light drainage work usually helps. But sudden, marked or one-sided swelling, especially with headache or visual changes, is a reason to contact your midwife or doctor rather than book a massage.
